Blood, Breath and Bones

Vulnerability is the antidote to shame.

One of the best parts about working with young people on an ongoing basis is witnessing them grow into themselves, and become leaders in their own right. To every one of you that I have the honour of knowing, thank you for welcoming me into such sacred moments in your life and for being my teachers.

Advice to my younger self, just off the cuff:

Don’t waste your time little one. You are enough. Step into it. Forgive yourself. You are so lovable. You are so lovable. You deserve more. You deserve to hold onto yourself and your energy. You are so beautiful. Be nicer to your mother. She is so tired. She doesn’t know any better. She is doing her best. She loves you so much. She is sorry, she’s just scared and so tired. Don’t waste your time. Study what you love. It doesnt’ matter what it is, just learn it. Just do it. Do the thing you are terrified of doing. Ask for help. Ask your mum for help. Ask anyone you can think of, but do the thing. Use condoms. Know consent, inside and out. Have the sex you want to be having, or don't bother. Have meaningful relationships, or don't bother. Be braver. Leave sooner. Say No more often.
